(Average of 350km to 450km per day) - 60% Easy Gravel Roads - 13 Days Driving.
1 Full Day driving in Addo Elephant National Park

Tour Summary:
Collect vehicles at Cape Town International Airport and depart along the picturesque Clarence Drive R44 to Hermanus. We follow the coastline and zig-zag across multiple gravel and asphalt mountain passes before reaching Addo Elephant Park close to Port Elizabeth.
The back route traverses gravel roads and crosses the incredible "Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area" - considered the no.1 off-road route by motorcyclists and 4x4 enthusiasts worldwide. The route then meanders through the rugged Cederberg Mountains before the home stretch via the N7 Highway to Cape Town.
42 Mountain Passes in total !

Routing:
On the first few days we skirt the scenic East coastline, stopping at De Hoop Nature Reserve for an overnight stay. We continue along more coastal tracks before heading inland through several mountain passes and into the Karoo. We explore historical ox-wagon trails and gravel passes along the coastal regions and venture deep into the 2000-year-old Knysna Forests and overnight in the famous Prince Alfred’s Pass.
We then set off to Addo Elephant National Park for a rest day including a full-day safari drive in the vast National Park, inhabited by over 700 elephants, lion, buffalo, rhino and many antelope species.
It’s then time to embark on the no.1 off-road route in South Africa - the Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area. This iconic area showcases multiple valleys and passes, with over 20 river crossings, mostly shallow (though some can reach depths of up to 1.5 meters in the winter rain fall months of May to September).  We continue into the Great Karoo region and over the world famous Swartberg Pass, descending into the Karoo Winelands town of Calitzdorp, on the Route 62.

The route continues Northwest into the Hantam Karoo region and into the ancient Cederberg Mountains where we marvel at the beauty of rugged rock formations and 6000-year-old San rock art. The route back to Cape Town city (or to the airport for vehicle returns) takes us through the beautiful Paarl Winelands valley and Franschhoek Pass.
